I’m Jumping In With Both Feet

Posted on 09. May, 2012 by in News

After 19 years of adhering to strict accounting deadlines and working for someone else, I am counting down the days (only 2 to go!) until I become FREE to do what I *really* want to do.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m combining my years of number crunching and real estate investing knowledge to become an investment focused Realtor.

The transition from Corporate Accountant to Realtor isn’t going to be easy, I’m certain of that. There’s the different pace, different benefits, drawbacks, rewards and downsides for a start. Giving up the security of a good monthly pay check and perks to become self employed has induced a few restless nights I can tell you.

Despite everything I have worked toward in my diverse accounting career, the allure of being my own boss and fully immersing myself in my passion for real estate investing is exciting and scary at the same time.

And in true Jane style, she has been totally supportive throughout every decision I make.  “Jump and the net will appear” is a favourite of hers.  How come women are just so damn good at “knowing” this stuff?

The rewards of doing what I love and being able to better combine work and family life as well as an unwavering perseverance for success has driven me to take the plunge and jump in with both feet. I’m no longer testing the water, I’m doing it!

So many people hold on tightly trying not to fail, yet to be wildly successful, I know I need to jump in knowing I will succeed even if I am not sure how it’s all going to come together. I am going after my mission because I am determined to make my dream a huge reality no matter what.

And even when I am bogged down working evenings and weekends (which will happen, I totally know that), I am so looking forward to the perk of going for lunch in a fancy restaurant with Jane in the middle of the day!!

I’m saying “Yes” to my dreams and looking ahead with optimism and lots of exciting opportunities coming my way.

What about you? What risks are you taking or have taken? I’d love to hear your comments.

    Congratulations Richard!
This is a huge move, and it takes a lot of courage.

I’m positive your accounting experience will be an asset to your real estate business.

I have also taken the jump a few years ago, quitting my left-brain dominating field of software development and diving into real estate. Scary? Definitely! worth-while! Definitely!

Good Luck on your new adventures :)

James. I know it won’t be easy but it will be worth it I know. Already I am meeting clients who are surprised by my way of working. It’s a big leap but very worth it

    Hello Richard!
Congratulations on your move into real estate investing fulltime! I discovered your site through REIN. I recently became a member (July 18th to be exact) and have been working my way through Don’s book “Real Estate Investing In Canada”. I have become so excited by all this new knowledge. I currently reside in Nagano, Japan. About three months ago I realized I wanted to “get into” real estate investing but really knew nothing. I am originally from Nova Scotia so I instinctively thought about here and where would be good. But, really, I knew nothing! Discovering Don has been an immeasurably wonderful occurrence. And now, your sites and information have added to that as well. So, thank you!
Currently, I am visiting Nova Scotia with my children and would love the opportunity to sit down with you to just discuss what is happening here and maybe look at some options for someone in my situation… being a non-resident and hoping to invest in NS. I’m going to be in the Halifax area from July 30th through August 13th and welcome the chance to meet on your schedule! You can contact me via the email address I’ve left or from your Invicta subscribers list.
    Thanks in advance!
