Why You Don’t Want to Get Your REI Education From the School of Hard Knocks

I personally know many investors who got their real estate education from the school of hard knocks.  Did they get lucky? Somewhat, because they now hold a solid portfolio of cash flowing properties but did they do it the simple way?  Absolutely not!

You know, real estate investing is really simple (definitely not easy) but very straightforward as long as you know what you are doing.  And, the first thing you must do before you even consider investing in your real estate business is first invest in YOURSELF!

Education is key, you hear it all the time. But, the only way to learn to make money from real estate in a risk free manner is by discovering the basics before you begin or expand your investing career. There are endless educational and training resources available to you and selecting the correct one is critical to your success as a real estate investor.

Let me tell you, becoming financially literate does not happen overnight. It takes time and effort.

So, if you are serious about making money from property then you have to be prepared to invest in your education.

This might mean investing in well reviewed and recommended real estate investing books geared to your target market and country.    If you are a Canadian investor, stick with the Canadian systems as you will save yourself an enormous amount of time and revenue.  These books can be a valuable source of information for the novice investor and can start the ball rolling in your real estate career.

Whether you decide to invest large sums of money into a full blown property mentorship program or attend real estate seminars that’s entirely up to you.

In the meantime, you can continue reading and finding out as much information as you can.  Join your local Real Estate Investing Group – most areas have at least one such group and they are often free.  We have an excellent one here in Halifax, it’s full of ROCKING action taking investors. Check out the link here www.meetup.com/REIHalifax.  It’s certainly an invaluable way to meet with other investors and share information.

Real estate investing has an enormous scope – once you’ve mastered the basics, focus on and become an expert in one or two areas.  Don’t become a ‘Jack of all Trades and Master of None’. Focus your time, energy and education learning all you can in your area of interest.

An inexpensive investment in your education spent at the beginning of your real estate career will absolutely pay off in the long run- you will reap the rewards of your hard work and incredible knowledge base!

Before you rush out to invest, invest in yourself first.  Commit to CAN-I, Constant and Never Ending Improvement and take action today!

Here’s to YOUR Investing Success!
